In closing the “Mercy’s Throne” project it was important to us that we would not only celebrate the bodily resurrection of Jesus from the grave, but that we’d also rejoice in his ascension. At the cross, Christ was the perfect sacrifice for our sin. This alone is cause for wonder and endless praise, but he is so much more than just a sacrifice.
We were dead in sin. We had no hope.
And then, at the right time, Christ cried “It is finished!”
There is death in the air
There is blood on the ground
and the tables are set
in every home in this town
The opening lines of “Jesus Save Us” can be thought of as both a beginning and an end. Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem is the beginning of the Passion Week and, at this point, God’s plan of redemptive history begins to move very fast.
This moment is also an end to something: waiting.
The core of our faith comes down to two events: Jesus' death on a cross and his resurrection three days later. For thousands of years, the Christian church has been commemorating these pivotal events, and we will do this once again this year.
